Five Song Lyrics to Remind Me Every Year What the Christmas Season is Really About

Christmas is about many things. Family, love, traditions. Delicious food and desserts. A time of reflection on all the months that came before.

However, it is usually at that Christmas Eve service every year that I really remember the reason so many Christians hold Christmas so dear.

Here are some of my favorite lyrics which remind me of the reason for the season:

1. "Come to earth to taste our sadness, He whose glories knew no end; by His life he brings us gladness, our redeemer, Shepherd, Friend"

(Come Thou Long Expected Jesus)

2. "Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn."

(Oh Holy Night)

3. "Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die;

Born to raise the sons of earth,

Born to give them second birth".

(Hark, the Herald Angels Sing)

4. "Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy"

(Joy to the World)

5. "Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

'God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The Wrong shall fail,

The Right prevail,

With Peace on Earth, Good-will to Men.'"

(I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day)

If you hear any of these songs this season either on the radio or in a Christmas service, I hope you will reflect on the true meaning of the season.

I would love to know what your favorite Christmas carol is, or the one that makes you reflect the most on Christ and His amazing gift in coming!
